Once Upon A Hole

Yang Dong | China

'Once Upon A Hole' is a participatory picturebook which explores the relationship between the physicality of the book-object and narrative—the story is about an adventure. Little rabbit decided to explore different borrows under the ground, and his two friends came with him, the journey seems pleasant at the beginning until the most careful one made a mistake. The book aims to show the life of some underground animals and invite readers to participate in the narrative with flaps, cut-outs, page-turning and pop-up technique to explore the fictional world with the characters. I name this kind of picturebook as un-flattened picturebooks in my PhD study.
