"FROM" is a picture book that explores the formation of identity through the journey of a nameless figure.
For those that have moved between different cities, countries, and continents, the question "where are you from?" can be difficult to answer. What makes us call a place home? And does the name of a single location communicate how you got to where you are now?
Growing up as a US passport-holder in China, I have always been aware that people see the world differently based on the events and circumstances of their personal journey. Even the way we read images can be very different. A line of clouds receding into the distance could be seen as a line of clouds decreasing in size. "FROM" invites the reader to drift across the surface of the complexities that define who we are and how we see the world.
