An hilarious selection of phrases that spring from long ago and are still used today, despite making little sense. Idioms was part of my Master's Project in Children's Book Illustration, at Cambridge School of Art. Inspired by time spent living abroad, trying to learn other languages, but often feeling a little alien. There are many common threads to language and folk traditions around the world, and Idioms and their origins really captured my attention. It all felt like such a wonderful thing to celebrate. They are an introduction to the world of Idioms, something that is spoken but not celebrated as much as it should be. I used watercolour and then created a limited palate and digitised the colour in photoshop. As a printmaker and illustrator, I wanted to create a system of working that shows the printmaking technique, but is very adaptable to the Publishing world, where corrections and time need to be accounted for.
