“Amazing Grace” is a book about resilience and companionship, perfect for children who have lost one of their abilities. It offers encouragement and shows them how to embrace new ways of experiencing the world. This book helps readers find joy and wonder, no matter their challenges. It’s a story that demonstrates overcoming a disability. I had two initial sources of inspiration. Years ago, the son of a friend of mine lost his sight due to a genetic condition he inherited, which had also affected one of his uncles, who became blind in childhood. My friend's son was a very smart and intelligent kid, but he became quite disappointed for a while. He was just 9 years old. Then a good therapist convinced him that it was just a change in his reality and that he might even find new joys in life. That kid is now a talented musician and composer. His life story encouraged me to think about children with disabilities, especially those who lose an ability during their lives, and even those who lose their loved ones. I wanted to create a book in which they could see themselves, a book that motivates them for the rest of their lives. I live in a suburb in Canada, with my house surrounded by wildflowers beside a forest. Nature is my source of inspiration as well. One day, I found an injured bird, took it home, and cared for it. It had lost its ability to fly for a while, which reminded me of my friend's son. This bird and its relationship with me became my source of inspiration for this story. Through numerous rewrites, I was able to find the other pieces.
