Cub

Ulrika Ekelund Andersson | Sweden

Cub is a silent picturebook for older children with a lot of space for the readers to do their own interpretations.
The story starts in a citypark with the houses closely nearby. In a dim place that nobody knows of, a bear finds a child that seems lost and lonely. The bear decides to take care of it. But how? The bear is a clumsy and insecure helper and the child doesn’t seem to be well. Worried shadows are moving in the background.

Maybe is it a healing child play, an exploration of oneself. Maybe the bear represent something inside the child itself or a family member. The childs secret is the motor of the story. Why have he turned his back to the world? Or is it the other way around?
The story is about exclusion, alienation and to find your own way of life.
