When you are forced to share space with someone that is the complete opposite of you, it's very easy to get annoyed and think that you would be better off alone than in such bad company. However, making the effort to find common ground and learning to appreciate the other is very rewarding! "Better alone" is a mixed media picture book developed in a very graphic style that tells the story of two very different cats learning to mingle and enjoy each other's company. This story is told through the contrasting colours and the separate page compositions – starting with each cat in their own page and slowly having them interact with each other until they end up all cuddled up in a final double spread. The amount of text is minimal. The colour palette makes use of just red and blue to build the narrative, and the textures are added for extra dimension and visual interest. The textures were entirely done by hand and digitally worked into the duotone palette.
