Lollipop Tuesday

Tintin Lindkvist Nielsen | Sweden

During a self-negotiated brief, I did at my university, I developed my children’s book Lollipop Tuesday. A lot of my work is connected to feelings and mental health. In my children’s book, the main character, who is the owner of a corner shop, deals with feelings such as not feeling good enough. The book concludes with the protagonist realizing that it is okay to ask for help and to remember to be kind to yourself.

The main character is also dealing with being sensitive and it is their sensitivity that helps them be able to help so many customers. They notice things others miss, which is a positive trait of being sensitive. The word sensitive has a very negative connotation in our society. I want to tell children (and their parents) that there are positive aspects to being sensitive. We all deal with different situations in different ways, some things might seem easier for others and that is okay.

The book's target group is 3-6 years old.

My illustrations are painted traditionally using gouache. They are scanned and some line art has been added digitally using the software procreate.
