The Raccoon

Jessica Ciccolone | Italy

Raccoons are very dexterous and curious animals, and they might even escape from your book!
A parody of a non-fiction book that features a raccoon too mischievous - and too focused on eating its pizza- to listen to the narrator’s voice. Intrigued by metafiction in storytelling - and inspired by The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales - I explored how parody and self-referentiality can impact the reading experience, especially when these elements subvert the materiality of the book.
To push the parody to its excess, I decided to mock the formality of the old-school natural history books.
For the illustrations, I used the stencil technique and the single elements were assembled together digitally.
