Homework

TaeHee Park | South Korea

This project is written by a Korean auteur, YoungMin Pyo, and collaborated with Korean illustrator TaeHee Park.

One day, writer YoungMin Pyo began to see John Burningham's <John Patrick Norman Mchennessy-the boy who was always late> anew, and an interesting idea came to mind.
He recreated the story of a student who was late for home every day, not a student who was late for school every day.
When the child comes back from school, a scuffle with the mother begins.
The child says he will do his homework after playing with his friends, and the mother says to play with them after doing it first.
Whose side do you want to take? The story is about a mother thinking about the child's position and a child thinking about the mother's position.

The work was produced in a silk screen or RISO print style, and the color created by mixing three colors with strong individuality. The scene where the main character meets an animal friend and enjoys playing was expressed vertically to create a free atmosphere. The point of observation in the work is the part where the main character's clothes are dyed one by one as he meets animal friends, which were black and white at the beginning of the book. This effect is an expression of the suppressed character turning into a child who can express freely. In addition, scenes related to homework, school, and home are all drawn in monotone, representing the character's desolate mind.
