Zaboravljene stvari (The Forgotten Things)

Agata Lučić | Croatia

Zaboravljene stvari (The Forgotten Things) is a self-initiated project/picturebook inspired by flea markets and antique shops.

With this book, I wanted to recreate the unique and vivid atmosphere of these places. I find it fascinating to see so many things in one location. There are often some really valuable, but also bizarre, meaningless, strange and comical artefacts which can be seen at flea markets and in antique shops. Many interesting people sell or buy these items. This was the trigger for the story.

Discarded items, although looking for a new owner, already have their history and story. People have the tendency to take things for granted, and when they get bored they get rid of them without too much thinking. With this story, I wanted to emphasize that although such items are not completely new they could carry a unique story. I wanted to show that it might be magical to use something seemingly old and forgotten, instead of frequently buying something new.
