This picturebook is inspired by the true story of Mariedl (Maria Fassnauer), a giant woman born in Südtirol (former Austria, now in Italy) at the end of the 19th century. After a youth spent in a modest farm in the mountains, Mariedl decides to join a circus and begins a tour of numerous European freakshows.
The book aims to investigate the identity and story of a "different" woman forced to confront a deeply conformist world.
